Seollal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) are each three public holidays: the day itself plus the day before and after. If one of the days is a Sunday, a substitute holiday follows. When a substitute holiday is added

If any of the three days falls on a Sunday, the first non-holiday after the break becomes a substitute holiday. A Saturday overlap is not replaced.

Travel and planning tips for the holidays

Roads, trains and intercity buses are crowded around Seollal and Chuseok and tickets sell out early, so book travel as soon as you can.
Government offices and banks close. Many family-run restaurants and shops close too, while large stores, convenience stores and tourist areas are usually open, sometimes with shorter hours.
If you work with Korean partners, expect slower replies around the holidays and finish approvals and shipments before the break.
